Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Head Of Finance the candidate’s primary role is to organize, manage, supervise and control financial management, accounting and administrative functions of the NGO and ensure the accurate and timely preparation of the organization’s accounts and financial statements. 

Responsibilities 

  • Oversees the operation of key support functions including procurement, and financial accounting;
  • Follows-up on status with the Social Security (Pension) and Tax departments. Including depositing the checks and routine follow-up, registering new employees at Social Security (Pension) and Tax Departments;
  • Recommends adoption of financial management and control systems to ensure capital expenditure security of NGO’s assets and implementation of strict cost controls;
  • Participates in negotiations for recurrent and capital expenditure funds to finance the activities of the NGO;
  • Reviews the NGO’s financial management and accounting requirements, develops, and ensures implementation of internationally recognised accounting standards;
  • Utilises established financial management and accounting systems/procedures to prepare accurate and timely accounts and financial statements that reflect the true financial status of NGO;
  •  Coordinates the preparation of annual budgets, forecasting income and expenditure;
  • Establishes the NGO’s cash flow requirements and investments (where appropriate) to optimise returns on the organisations assets and ensure adequate cash flow to meet the Authority’s liabilities requirements.
  • Coordinates the annual external audit timetable, and resolves queries on the accounts
  • Prepares payroll and arranges timely payment of salaries and financial statements.
  • Coordinates preparation of the annual NGO’s budget.
  • Effectively manage and develop the department’s human capital, instilling a high performance culture in order to achieve the organisation’s strategic objectives;
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or related Accounting qualification; and
  • Membership to a professional internationally recognized finance and accounting institute will be an added advantage.
  • At least five years’ experience in Accounting or Audit two of which should have been at Supervisory level
  • Experience working in an NGO environment
