Senior Accounts Officer – BPOMAS

Job Description

The Botswana Public Officers’ Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) is the country’s largest Medical Aid Scheme which provides its members with comprehensive medical aid cover and complementary value-adding benefits. BPOMAS is looking to fill the following positions.
JOB TITLE: SENIOR ACCOUNTS OFFICER
Location: BPOMAS Office, Gaborone

PURPOSE OF JOB:

To organize and carry out daily processing of accounting records and information to ensure accurate and timely production of accounts in accordance with laid down procedures and schedules, accounting policies and standards, and customer expectations The role covers both BPOMAS and its subsidiary, BPOMAS Property Holdings (BPH).

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting
⦁ Ensure that all day-to-day financial accounting controls, records, and activities are up to date.
⦁ Analyse a range of accounts; reconcile financial ledgers and records, general ledgers, investigate and resolve discrepancies
⦁ Prepare bank reconciliations and related journal entries for a variety of accounts
⦁ Maintain and track fixed asset inventory control records
⦁ Process and resolve unmatched reports and prepare necessary journal entries to balance and reconcile respective accounts
⦁ Preparation, processing, and reconciliation of supplier payments.
⦁ Preparation and processing of creditors’ information, and ensuring timeous and accurate creditor payments.
⦁ Preparation and processing of payroll; monitor payroll costs and prepare an analysis of costs as required.
⦁ Preparation and processing of VAT, PAYE, and other tax returns, and further ensure all Tax liabilities are paid throughout the Tax year and proper returns filed with Tax authorities.

Operational

⦁ Provide assistance in the development of the annual budget; assist in the review and validation of annual budgets.
⦁ Assist in the preparation of monthly and periodic financial analyses and reports of expenditure and revenue against budget
⦁ Attend to customer (both internal and external) queries within service level agreement.
⦁ Compilation and submission of annual returns
⦁ Handle office administration and all logistical requirements including supervision of the front desk
Risk
⦁ Identify, assess, and evaluate potential financial risks, and manage and monitor departmental risks.
⦁ Ensure that a risk awareness culture is inculcated in the working environment within BPOMAS Finance Department.

Audit and Governance

⦁ Prepare audit schedules in order to ensure preparedness and timely execution of the audit process
⦁ Conduct quality assurance, check the accuracy of the account codes relating to financial documentation and resolve coding queries; recommend establishment of additional codes to facilitate accurate processing and recording of financial information and the generation of appropriate reports.

Reporting

⦁ Prepare monthly and periodic analysis reports of expenditure and revenue against budget and establishes reasons for variances; alerts on significant changes, deviations, and other variances from forecasts and budgets.

Qualifications:

⦁ Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent
⦁ ACCA/CIMA Part Qualified. Qualified ACCA/CIMA added advantage of 3-5 years of work experience in Accounting or related field
