purpose

To reconcile and investigate suspense accounts and control accounts, ensure open items and queries are resolved promptly and that the bank is not exposed to interest claims and exchange losses.

experience and qualifications

  • Relevant accounting, business or banking degree / Higher Diploma with an ACI Operations Certificate.
  • 2+ years’ reconciliations experience within a banking operations environment.

responsibilities

  • Reconcile entries in the reconciler system (daily).
  • Identify and investigate queries and follow-up exceptions with relevant stakeholders (daily).
  • Produce outstanding and aged analysis reports (daily) with detailed explanation / comments against each item.
  • Escalate all unreconciled items in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • Pass journal entries for transactions that are outstanding across the branches.
  • Reconcile items to ensure matching is complete and accounts are clear.
  • Reconcile suspense accounts and GL entries with reconciler system, Excel spreadsheet and BAS system (daily).
  • Pass journals for daily processing (mis-posts, adjustments and nullifiers).
  • Identify, investigate and query exceptions (daily).
  • Produce outstanding and aged analysis reports (daily) with detailed explanation / comments against each item.
  • Reconcile items and ensure matching is complete and accounts are clear.
  • Carry out weekly and monthly balancing of suspense accounts and GL accounts for audit purposes.
  • Escalate all unreconciled items in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • Reconcile statutory account statements and ledger entries within the reconciler system (daily)
  • Collate proposals for recharge to branches.
  • Identify and investigate Identify and investigate queries and follow-up exceptions with relevant stakeholders (daily).
  • Produce outstanding and aged analysis reports (daily) with detailed explanation / comments against each item.
  • Reconcile items and ensure matching is complete and accounts are clear.
  • Carry out weekly and monthly balancing of statutory accounts and file them safely for audit purposes.
  • Escalate all unreconciled items in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • Strive for an acceptable audit rating.
  • Query outstanding promptly to avoid income leakage.
  • Ensure adherence to standards, policies, processes and procedures.
  • Be aware of settlement (payment or delivery) and liquidity risk in terms of the urgency to ensure settlements occur on time.
  • Stay abreast of upcoming regulatory changes to be able to minimise the impact thereof where relevant.
  • Anticipate audit shortcomings and put processes in place to address these.
  • Liaise with branches to manage and report exceptions (daily).
  • Train and develop branch staff.
  • Liaise with correspondent banks to manage and resolve exceptions.
  • Display flexibility in responding to and executing queries promptly.
  • Liaise with Central Bank to resolve discrepancies.
  • Continually drive and model RMB’s values.
  • Follow through to ensure that personal quality and productivity standards are consistently and accurately maintained.
  • Stay up-to-date with legislation and new developments.
