Work sites: Gaborone

HOPE worldwide Botswana (HwwB) is looking for young women between the ages of 22-29 years interested in volunteering as mentors (for out of school young women). The role will be reporting to Mentor Leader.

Objective: To provide mentoring support and linkages to appropriate sexual reproductive health and HIV prevention services, enabling the smooth implementation of the DREAMS program within the districts.

Key Tasks:
• Life skills+ facilitation in schools
• Support recruitment of Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in DREAMS program
• Engage AGYW to find a safe space venue for AGYW to meet
• Facilitate group safe space meetings for the AGYWs
• Deliver all required the required DREAMS services using recommended curriculum as indicated in the Safe Space Guide
• Build a credible relationship with the AGYWs
• Serve as role models for the AGYWs
• Refer AGYWs to access services and existing resources in their community
• Support facilitators by creating an active environment where a mentor appears as a ‘guide by the side’ encouraging the sharing of knowledge by and with active participants.
• Conduct follow up home visits to AGYW
• Identify and report success stories and most significant changes on monthly basis.
• Report progress on mentorship/ safe space services.
• Participate in QA meetings with DREAMS staff and Case workers.
• Document all program activity/ services using authorized tools for data collection and reporting

Please note that this is not considered a permanent or fulltime job but an opportunity for developing people skills and other relevant skills while volunteering to empowering adolescent girls and young women. The role requires a passion for relationship building with adolescent girls and young women.

Qualifications with Age Restrictions:
Mentor for young women
• Minimum Diploma in Social work, Counselling, Sociology or equivalent training.

Behavioral Aspects:
• Must be a young woman from the community and slightly older than the target population, whom the AGYW in the program would identify with, admire and would feel comfortable approaching her.
• Must have social skills and critical thinking capability.
• Must be a good communicator and trust worthy.
• Should be able to organize meetings and complete forms.
• Should be available to work with the community of adolescent girls and young women including during weekends.
• Can be a peer leader that is then capacity built and supported to become a mentor.
• Previous working experience with young people especially AGYW is added advantage.
• Ability to interacting with other levels of HwwB staff.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced commercial environment with serial deadlines.
