Main purpose of the position

To assist in planning, organizing, supervising, and controlling the maintenance and operation of Transmission & Distribution equipment to ensure maximum availability of the system.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises substation and line teams to deliver prescribed operational outcomes while working within established systems.
  • Provides onsite technical support during operation & maintenance of transmission and distribution equipment.
  • Collates information related to short to medium term equipment maintenance plans in accordance with manufacture’s specifications and BPC’s standards and requirements.
  • Prepares and submits operational and maintenance monthly reports to the Senior Network Maintenance Engineer.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment and systems for emergency repairs.
  • Provide technical support to Technicians and Specialists in setting up and testing Transmission and Distribution equipment including installations of complex systems.
  • Prepares and submits inputs for planned monthly and annual maintenance schedules.
  • Install and maintain equipment as prescribed by manufacturers installation manual and BPC maintenance philosophy and standards.
  • Delivers required outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with contract service providers and working within an established contract management plan.
  • Works on site with consultants and contractors during pre-energising commissioning and takeover of new equipment to ensure that they conform to BPC’s standards and requirements
  • Delivers own small-scale or medium-scale projects by working within an established program management plan.
  • Provides information and data for the section’s performance and cost capturing report to the Planning Section
  • Compiles technical reports on equipment performance and submit to the Section Head.
  • Prepares draft budget, implements, monitors and controls expenditure against approved budget.
  • Update or give clients feedback on technical issues in relation to installation and repairs of equipment as well as processing their refunds.
  • Provides technical feedback to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identifies shortcomings in existing maintenance processes and procedures and recommend improvement.
  • Participates and provides input into the development of network maintenance processes and procedures then monitors their implementation.
  • Manages the motivation and discipline of staff in area of responsibility in line with laid down procedures to realize the Corporation’s objectives
  • Manages the performance of the team by working within a performance management system
  • Identifies gaps, proposes, and implements staff development plans for the area of responsibility to ensure competent, efficient and motivated staff.
  • Ensures that all Safety Health Risk and Environmental standards contained in the Corporation’s standards are adhered to.

Qualifications

  • Recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Membership of the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) is required (Graduate Category)
  • A valid Class B Driver’s license (Within 12 months from date of appointment).
