Applicants are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the positions of Financial Accountant and Accounts Officer tenable at Babereki Insurance Brokers (Pty) Ltd Headquarters in Gaborone.

  • FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT

JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Principal Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze Financial Information, prepare Information, accurate and timely financial reports and statements to ensure appropriate accounting procedures.

Management Responsibilities:• Provide leadership to finance and accounting areas of the organization.
• Provide useful financial insights to help make better decisions about formulating and executing strategy, and provide guidance and analysis to executive and operational management to improve results.
• Prepare and analyse accurate monthly financial and management reports, including income statement, statement of financial position, budget and variance, projections and forecasts, and cash flow.
• Maintain control of the following areas: general ledger, accounts payable, expense reports, billing, and payroll.
• Administer Company payroll.
Transactional Responsibilities:
• Ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately, in a timely manner, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Develop, implement, and maintain processes and controls that are current best practices related to transaction processing.
• Perform month-end closing procedures, including overhead allocations, account reconciliations, and updating schedules.
• Prepare and submit local Tax (PAYE & VAT & Withholding Tax) returns and reports on time and ensure that the appropriate % VAT input credits are claimed.
• Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.

Reporting Responsibilities:
• Reporting to management and stakeholders, and providing advice on how the company and future business decisions might be impacted.
• Assist in issuing timely, accurate, and complete financial statements for all levels, including Board of Directors, and management.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Authorize creditors payments according to Procurement procedures and practices.
• Checking of Petty cash and signed off.
• Prepare and assist with developing audit schedules for the annual audit.
• Ensure that the Asset Register is maintained and updated monthly.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Equivalent. A professional qualification and membership of the same, e.g. Chartered Accountant (CA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Experience:
Minimum of seven (7) years’ Post Graduate Experience, three (3) years of which should have been at Middle Management level; Knowledge of finance regulations and key strategic finance reporting.
