The Ministry of Environment and Tourism’s overall goal is to develop and implement policies, strategies, and programs to provide leadership and professional guidance on all matters pertaining to the conservation and management of the country’s environment and its natural resources for sustainable development and tourism.
Talented, experienced, proactive, innovative, and self-driven citizens of Botswana are sought to fill the below-mentioned positions in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
VACANCY CIRCULAR NO 5 of 2023
DIRECTOR – (DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM) – El
Salary Scale: El – (P487, 752 – P507,480) per annum.
Benefits/Terms of employment
i) Optional Contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% and employee pays 50%).
ii) A contract of 24 to 36 months with gratuity at the rate of 30% payable upon expiry of contract.
Leave: 30 working days per annum.

Qualifications:

Degree in Tourism Management/Tourism Administration/ Tourism Hospitality/Tourism Planning/Statistics/Strategic Management/Public Management/Human Resources Management/Business Administration. A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.
Experience: Applicants must have a minimum of at least sixteen (16) years of experience, two (2) years of which should have been served as Deputy Director or equivalent level in the tourism industry in a reputable public or private institution.
Main Purpose of the Job
To provide strategic leadership and guidance in all technical and administrative matters pertaining to the tourism industry and to formulate and ensure effective implementation of tourism policies and strategies.

Key Performance Areas

⦁ Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of the departmental strategic plan.
⦁ Direct the development and implementation of tourism policies and legislation
⦁ Interpret and guide implementation of international and regional declarations/obligations across sectors/ organizations to ensure policy and programme efficiency.
⦁ Coordinate the development and implementation of the National Tourism Strategy,
⦁ Coordinate the development and implementation of tourism standards, processes, and procedures for efficient service delivery.
⦁ Guide the assessment and approval of recommendations for licensing of tourism enterprises.
⦁ Coordinate social engagement activities of the tourism sector (e.g. Tourism PITSO, social media campaigns)
⦁ Maintain regular contact with national, regional, and international stakeholders to develop and grow the tourism industry.
⦁ Represent the Ministry/Department at various fora on tourism growth and development-related matters.
⦁ Monitor maintenance of accurate and up-to-date tourism records
