The Ministry of Environment and Tourism’s overall goal is to develop and implement policies, strategies, and programs to provide leadership and professional guidance on all matters pertaining to the conservation and management of the country’s environment and its natural resources for sustainable development and tourism.
Talented, experienced, proactive, innovative, and self-driven citizens of Botswana are sought to fill the below-mentioned positions in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.

VACANCY CIRCULAR NO 6 of 2023

DIRECTOR – (DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL MUSEUM AND MONUMENTS)-El
Salary Scale: El – (P487, 752 – P507,480) per annum.
Benefits/Terms of Employment
i) Optional Contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% and the employee pays 50%).
ii) A contract of 24 to 36 months with gratuity at the rate of 30% payable upon expiry of the contract.
Leave 30 working days per annum.

Qualifications:

Degree in History/Ethnology/Sociology/Archaeology/ Environmental Science/Museum Design. A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.

Experience:

Applicants must have a minimum of at least sixteen (16) years of experience, two (2) years of which should have been served as Deputy Director in the heritage field or equivalent level in a reputable public or private institution.

Main Purpose of the Job

To provide strategic leadership and managerial direction in all matters pertaining to the conservation of the country’s cultural and natural heritage, enforcement and administration of the Museum and Monuments Act.

Key Performance Areas

⦁ Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of the departmental strategic plan.
⦁ Guide the development and implementation of conservation of cultural and natural heritage policies, legislation, strategies and programs.
⦁ Interpret and guide implementation of international and regional declarations/obligations across sectors/ organizations to ensure policy and program efficiency.
⦁ Coordinate the development and management of the cultural and natural heritage strategy.
⦁ Coordinate research on cultural and natural heritage.
⦁ Guide the dissemination of conservation of cultural heritage information and advice stakeholders on all aspects of the conservation of cultural and natural heritage.
⦁ Draft cabinet memoranda and policy briefs on matters relating to cultural and natural heritage.
⦁ Collaborate with national, regional, and international stakeholders to promote Botswana’s cultural and natural heritage.
⦁ Monitor maintenance of accurate and up-to-date conservation of cultural and natural heritage records.
⦁ Oversee development and presentation of financial proposals to relevant funding organizations to ensure access to international financial aid towards cultural and natural heritage initiatives.
