Job Description

Mandate: Ministry of Health and Wellness exists to promote and provide integrated, holistic and sustainable preventative, curative, rehabilitative quality health service to the nation.

CIRCULAR NO. 26 OF 2024 VACANCY: CLERK OF WORKS FIXED TERM CONTRACT

Applications are invited from suitably qualified citizens of Botswana for the above position in the Ministry of Health – Department of Corporate Services, tenable at various construction sites across the country.

SALARY: D4 (P243, 756 – P268, 680 per annum)

BENEFITS:

  1. a) A fixed term contract of 12 months with gratuity of 30% payable at the end of the contract.

LEAVE: 30 working days per annum.

QUALIFICATIONS. Degree In Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Structural/Civll Engineering, Building Surveying, Construction Management or Construction Economics.

Applicants must be registered with the appropriate registration council and in possession of a valid practicing certificate.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of six (6) years relevant work experience, of which two (2) years must have been served at Cl salary scale level or its equivalent.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Coordinate and monitor all phases of building construction at the work site.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  1. Observe the quality and progress of the construction to determine In general that it is proceeding In accordance with the Contract
  2. Monitor the construction progress and assist in the preparation of progress reports required by the
  3. Review Contract Documents with the Contractor’s superintendent so as to have a complete understanding of the scope of the project.
  4. Consider the Contractor’s suggestions and recommendations, evaluate them, discuss them with the Architect/Engineer and assist the Architect/Engineer when applicable in making a final decision.
  5. Attend project meetings as the client’s representative and report to the client In writing on the proceedings.
  6. Observe tests required by the Contract Documents and review testing invoices, if any, to be paid by the client.

Maintain records at the construction site or as directed by the client in an orderly manner In accordance with the client’s Include correspondence where applicable, such as Contract Documents, Change Orders, Construction Change Authorizations, Architect’s/ Engineer’s Supplemental Instructions, reports of site conferences. Shop Drawings, Product Data, Samples, supplementary drawings, color schedules, requests for payment, names and addresses of contractors, subcontractors and principal material suppliers.
  2. Keep a logbook containing project progress and reports and submit reports on the progress of the Contractor’s work to the client. The log must contain activities related to the project, weather conditions, nature and location of work being The Project Architect/ Engineer will provide Observation Construction Reports documenting his site visits.

  4. Observe the Contractor’s Record Drawings at intervals appropriate to the stage of construction and notify the Owner and Architect/Engineer of any apparent failure by the Contractor to maintain up-to-date records.
  5. Review Applications for Payment submitted by the Contractor with the Architect/ Engineer and assist in making recommendations for

Assist the Architect/Engineer in reviewing the documentation and record documents to be furnished to the client by the Contractor at Substantial Completion, and verify that the Contractor has met the requirements of the Contract Documents for training the Owner’s personnel in the operation and maintenance of all building equipment and
  7. Assist the Architect/Engineer in final inspection of the work. Assist the Architect/Engineer in reviewing the documentation and record documents to be furnished to the Owner by the Contractor upon completion of the work.
  8. Undertake any other related duties as may be assigned by Management for the exigency of the Civil Service.
