Job Description

HRMB is seeking a results-driven and strategic Chief Operations Officer to strengthen organisational processes, infrastructure and service delivery in line with its strategic objectives. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will provide executive leadership across Claims and Document Management, Client Services, Managed Health Care, Provider Networks, Scheme Finance and Membership Management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of the Board-approved strategy and translate strategic objectives into operational plans and performance targets.
  • Provide end-to-end oversight of core operational functions to ensure efficiency, quality, compliance and service excellence.
  • Drive operational excellence through improved processes, systems, controls, reporting and performance management.
  • Oversee major projects, programmes and strategic initiatives, ensuring delivery within scope, timelines and approved budgets.
  • Provide inspirational leadership to senior managers and teams, building a high-performance and accountable culture.
  • Provide strategic oversight of scheme and operational funds to support sustainability, cost containment and prudent resource allocation.
  • Strengthen stakeholder relationships with clients, regulators, providers, partners and industry bodies.
  • Ensure effective governance, risk management, compliance and Board-level operational reporting.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualifications in insurance, healthcare management, risk management, project management, or business operations would be advantageous.
  • A Master’s Degree or higher is an added advantage.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in a healthcare, medical aid or insurance environment.
  • At least 5 years’ exposure at senior leadership level.
  • Proven track record in people management and leadership roles, with experience leading and managing culturally diverse teams.
  • Strong professional networks and/or collaborative relationships within relevant professional associations and medical industry bodies.
  • Membership of a recognised professional body will be advantageous.
