Purpose of the Role

To formulate and execute the full financial overall strategy aligned with the Debswna’s Strategic Business Plan (SBP) and provide functional thought leadership. 

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributes to the setting of the overall Debswana’s strategy including the identification, definition and prioritizing of supporting initiatives and programmes across the full range of financial activities.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic financial guidance and direction to the definition, management and implementation of Debswana’s organizational strategy
  • Provides financial advice and guidance to Debswana’s Executive Committee and Managing Director, including quality management and provision of financial reports and information
  • Monitors, evaluates and advises on the financial impact on long /medium term plans, introduction of new programs/strategies
  • Provides thought leadership and leads Finance team to provide the Business with effective strategic, tactical, and operational support across the full range of Finance streams
  • Leads and develops the performance of the team in line with the Business performance management system and company values, in order to achieve objectives
  • Builds and manages relationships with relevant external key stakeholders which includes the banks, auditors and regulators
  • Responsible for and acts as custodian of Debswana’s assets, financial corporate governance and gatekeeper of the capital expenditure approval process
  • Develops frameworks that will provide an enabling environment for timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts
  • Articulates and exemplifies the organisation ethics and values related to business practices, employee relations and social responsibilities
  • Develops frameworks and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principle/requirements
  • Builds relationship across the Debswana pipeline by sharing business information and knowledge management
  • Establishes and maintains business partner relationships with all internal and external key stakeholders to facilitate the optimal functioning of the business
  • Actively pursues a standardised companywide approach around the exchange and protection of information between Group of Companies and individuals to ensure effective knowledge management according to organisational objectives
  • Manages the key subordinate’s effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary
  • Oversees the implementation of the functional talent management initiatives by ensuring the right competency and effectiveness of manpower
  • Formulates and executes the overall Finance Functional strategy aligned with the Debswana’s Strategic Business Plan
  • Leads the Finance function at Debswana (including Supply Chain Management, Treasury, Management/Financial) and acts as a custodian of financial corporate governance

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for and manages the overall Functional safety, health and the environmental programme in line with organisational strategy and objectives

Education

  • Post graduate qualification in Business or Equivalent

Experience

12 years post graduate experience, 4 of which should have been served at Senior Management level

Legal Certification/Professional Registration

  • Registered Chartered Accountant (ACCA)
