Assistant Cost Accountant – Sandfire Motheo

Job Description

This position is responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical support for Motheo Copper Mine.

Operations Accounting:

  • Liaise with the warehouse team to ensure stock issues have been captured / issued to the correct cost code and make adjustment where necessary. Make sure month-end cut-off procedures are adhered to for accurate reporting.
  • Participate in the warehouse stock counts (observe, audit, confirm process and follow up on findings). Check if warehouse adheres to processes and procedures, e.g. Updating Pronto before stocks are issued to end users (updating costs), and deliveries are captured / receipted into Pronto within a reasonable time.
  • Review and reconcile diesel issues (warehouse report vs Kwanokeng reports).
  • Assist with collating and capturing / upload physical data ((approved production statistics) into Pronto.
  • Assist in capital management process, including assistance with preparation of Capital Acquisition Request Forms (CARF) and coordinating distribution approval and collection.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly capital reports, tracking of expenditure against budget, highlight any deviations and or delays in the completion of projects.
  • Assist departments in Allocating capital budgets and CARF process.
  • In collaboration with the Administration department, Information technology and the Financial Accountant, track and tag Motheo mine fixed assets.
  • Assist in Coordinating the annual budgeting and forecast process for the various department.
  • Check date integrity, by ensuring Anaplan and Pronto data is aligned.
  • Finalisation and accumulation of financial information to adjust; close and balance the financial records at period end.
  • Participating in and support the Cost Accountant in all Audits.
  • Assist Operations team with ad-hoc cost/management accounting policies and procedures.
  • Complete basic Anaplan (Sandfire’s planning solution) function training.
  • Any other functions as and when requested by management.

Qualifications:  A degree in Accounting, Finance, AAT or equivalent.

Experience:  At least 2 years’ experience as an accountant in the mining industry.
