ARTISAN – PROTECTION x2 (GABORONE)
In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 05/21/2024
Main purpose of the position
To install, maintain, test and repair power system protection equipment efficiently and effectively in accordance with BPC standards, policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs standards installation, maintenance, and repairs activities of protection schemes & devices under detailed guidance or supervision.
- Installation of communication cables and wiring between protection device and SCADA devices for purpose of substation monitoring and control.
- Carries out installation repair and maintenance of battery charger units and banks.
- Maintains proper housekeeping of protection equipment’s at the substations.
- Maintains housekeeping of storage facilities in depots for the protection’s drawings and spares.
- Operates various power tools, protection test equipment and adjusts work sequence and/or other variables to improve efficiency.
- Performs network Switching operations
- Conduct periodic inspection of protection equipment & devices, battery charger units and batteries in substations and make reports on status of protection and control gears
- Maintains up to date records for protection section.
- Report on the findings following testing, installation & maintenance of equipment
- Performs a variety of standard tests that require moderate judgment.
- Carries out battery charger tests in accordance with BPC standards.
- Carries out testing of protection schemes, with guidance, in accordance with BPC standards.
- Calibrates testing equipment to maintain protection and control accuracy and reliability.
- Performs testing and quality assurance checks on procured protection equipment and devices.
- Monitor stock level of protection spares tools and equipment and recommends restocking accordingly.
- Operates in accordance with policies and rules, while performing routine safety checks on own equipment and workspace.
- Maintains cleanliness of sectional vehicles.
- Maintains good condition and safe keeping of all tools and equipment.
- Complies to SHER procedures when carrying out duties.
- Promotes safety awareness in line with SHER requirements through periodic audits.
Qualifications
- BGCSE and National Craft Certificate in Electrical or equivalent.
- Class B Driver’s license is required
- Must obtain Senior Authorisation for both Transmission and Distribution (66 kV up to 400kV) within six (6) months for internal candidates and twelve (12) months for external candidates
