Job Description
The Accounts Officer will be responsible for handling a broad range of financial functions including treasury operations, general accounting, debtors’ management and tax compliance (with a focus on Withholding Tax). This is a hands-on role suited for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and can manage multiple financial responsibilities with accuracy and efficiency.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Your key accountabilities include:
- Processing and reconciling bank transactions and preparing daily/weekly recons.
- Liaising with banks on transactions, queries, and documentation.
- Performing monthly balance sheet recons: bank, debtors, inventory, fuel.
- Processing journal entries and maintaining accurate general ledger records.
- Assisting with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Maintaining and updating the debtor’s ledger accurately and on a timely basis.
- Issuing statements to customers and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Preparing and raising invoices to customers.
- Reconciling debtors/customer accounts and resolving billing discrepancies.
- Preparing aged debtors reports and escalating overdue accounts as appropriate.
- Computing, deducting and remitting Withholding Tax in accordance with applicable tax laws and deadlines.
- Maintaining accurate WHT schedules and supporting documentation.
- Preparing and filing WHT returns with BURS.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
- Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar accounting role, working in a multi-functional finance role
- Professional Membership (Registration with the BICA) is mandatory.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and concepts
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Pastel, Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, or similar)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
- Basic understanding of Botswana Tax
- Basic understanding of IFRS
