Job Summary

Botswana Hindu Society based at Maru a Pula in Gaborone invites applications from suitable qualified and experienced persons for the position of Temple Cook.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare Sattvic vegetarian meals and offerings for daily puja, aarti and deity worship.
  • Cook for major Hindu festivals including Diwali, Holi, Navratri, Janmashtami, Shivratri, Ram Navami etc
  • Cater for temple members, guests and community functions of up to 200-600 people
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, Hygiene and temple kitchen protocols.
  • Procure ingredients and manage temple kitchen inventory.
  • Ensure all foods prepared is strictly vegetarians and prepared according to Hindu dietary laws.

Requirements

  • Ateast 5-8 years of proven experience as a cook, preferably in a temple, religious institution, or catering environment
  • Knowledge of Indian/Hindu vegetarian cuisine and preparation of Bhog/Prasad
  • Understanding of Hindu festivals, fasting foods, and temple customs will be an added advantage.
  • Certificate in food preparation/catering/Hospitality preferred
  • Must be strictly vegetarian and abstain from alcohol and intoxicants
  • Must be Hygienic, reliable, honest and able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
