Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) is a mining company established in 1973 to mine and transform coal into unlimited sources of energy. The MCM business is at the heart of a prosperous future for Botswana with coal production contributing significantly to the economic development of Botswana. Morupule Coal Mine is owned by the Minerals Development Company Botswana (MDCB) at 100% ownership.

Morupule Coal Mine is located 14 km northwest of the urbanized village of Palapye (the fastest growing center outside the capital city of Gaborone), along the Serowe-Palapye national highway (A14).

Job Summary:
To implement, monitor and maintain the safety and health programme for Morupule Coal Mine to ensure compliance to mine procedures, policies standards, codes of practice and legal requirements.

Key Activities:
 Adheres to quality assurance/governance protocol/principles in area of responsibility
 Recommends and incorporate cost saving initiatives into budget and operates within approved parameters.  Facilitates the implementation and monitoring of the safety programme in line with mine policies, procedures, standards, codes of practice and legislation to ensure a safe working environment.
 Conducting safety and health equipment inspections and ensures that equipment is installed according to mine standards and legal requirements.
 Collaborates with the occupational hygienist to conduct surveys and determine risk exposures as well as the formulation of homogenous exposure groups (HEGS).
 Investigates incidents and produce a report with recommendation on preventative measures.
 Monitors onsite contractor performance with respect to safety and health protocols and ensures compliance to standards.
 Facilitate review of the mine operational safe work procedures.
 Advises and assists line managers and customers with interpretation of safety and health policies, procedures and standards.
 Conducting regular safety and risk audits and inspections in mini business areas.
 Identifies safety and health training needs to foster a safe working environment in mini business areas by compiling safety and Health training needs analysis/- Identifying relevant Safety and Health courses to address needs identified and following up on training to determine its effectiveness.
 Schedules and conducts safety and health training such as basic fire training, mock drills, simulations to employees and contractors.
 Facilitates Safety and Health campaigns by engaging Department/Mini Business Areas in order to get buy in.
 Conducts Safety, Health and Environment inductions employees, contractors and visitors as necessary.
 Compiles and analysis monthly and annual safety and health statistics highlighting problem areas and making recommendations to improve the situation.
 Checks preliminary safety and health incidents reports for correct completion and ensuring that information is accurate, accessible and retrievable.
 Analyses safety incidents to establish trends in order to predict potential risk areas and make recommendations to the head of department/mini business unit manager to minimise those risks.
 Conducts comprehensive risks identification, assessment and analysis the results to determine trends and develops action plans to minimize and mitigate the identified risks.
 Facilitates and conducts internal and external safety and health audits as required.
 Facilitate Hazards Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) process.
 Provides information required in order to determine the section risk log.
 Adheres to all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures in area of responsibility.
 Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas in order to improve the Mini Business Unit performance.
 Maintains effective relationships clients/partners/customers to ensure achievement of Mini Business Unit objectives.
 Takes responsibility for providing excellent services by developing self, applying skills, knowledge and experiences to improve and measure their own performance against set standards.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
 Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent.
 3 years post graduate experience in Safety and Health environment.
 Knowledge of SHE Management System ISO 45001: 2018 and ISO 14001: 2015
