Purpose of the Role

To contribute to the education of the whole child, attending to the intellectual, emotional, physical and social development.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budget and operates within approved parameters
  • Draws up yearly, termly and weekly plans of subject matters by complying with school subject policies
  • Prepares lesson plans to achieve the desired objectives taking cognisance of available resources and equipment by determining knowledge, skills, concepts, attitudes to be learnt through consultation of the syllabus and research mat
  • Provides an effective and stimulating environment for education by maintaining teaching area in a neat orderly condition and optimal use of teaching and learning equipment
  • Teaches subjects across the curriculum based on topics dealt within the mainstream as integration to enhance specific learning areas
  • Devises appropriate teaching methods/approaches to develop skills such as research and study
  • Continuously assess, records and appraises children’s progress
  • Promotes reading, care and appreciation for books through activities such as book displays and demonstrations
  • Contributes to the fuller development of the child’s potential through the medium of extra-mural activities by planning activities, arranging the necessary equipment and facilities, coaching and providing suitable opportunities for competition
  • Researches the market to keep abreast with industry best practices in the field of special education
  • Complies with all requirements pertaining to the teaching profession
  • Maintains a sound relationship with parents by means of formal and informal contact at meetings etc
  • Manages subordinates’ key effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary
  • Performs an array of administrative duties including keeping equipment inventory, scholar patrol, marking attendance registers, writing reports

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Implements safety, Health & environment programmes in the area of responsibility taking cognizance of all legal requirements

Education

  • Diploma in Primary Education or Special needs education

Experience

• 3 years post qualification experience in teaching as a special Education Teacher.
