SENIOR PROJECT GEOLOGIST
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
Your role will be accountable for the planning and implementation of greenfield and brownfield drilling programs to meet the strategic exploration and/or resource confidence requirements of the business.
MAJOR DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
•Drilling, target generation and design for multiple prospects and deposits through integration and utilization of geological, geochemical, geophysical and topographical data.
•Monitoring approved drilling activities and contractors in line with approved plans, budget, timelines and allocated resources.
•Identifying Exploration business risk analysis, developing and recommending mitigation measures and optimizing opportunities.
•Formulating working hypotheses based on results and suggesting new areas of interest to the Exploration Manager.
•The onboarding and organization of contractors and ensuring that there are effective controls across the exploration programs.
•Ensuring compliance to the quality assurance and quality control procedures at the drilling sites and the core processing facility.
•Ensuring compliance with parameters set for diamond core, reverse circulation, and geotechnical drilling, by conducting regular checks, closely monitoring progress and performing ad hoc audits.
•Ensuring the dispatch of samples to the laboratories in a timely manner and that results received from laboratories match accurately with samples dispatched from the field.
•Ensuring that all geology projects data, information, and databases are acquired and securely managed as per standards and guidelines.
•Providing technical input into the exploration programs, by preparing maps, drawing geological sections, geophysical plans,
topography plans and correlating data.
•Preparing interpreted geological sections with mineralized envelopes, 30 modelling of the deposits and other information for resource estimation and validation.
•Introducing and implementing new systems through up-to-date research to guide the exploration targeting processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
•Minimum of B.Sc. in Geology
•A Master’s Degree and a qualification in Project Management would be an added advantage
•Registered Professional Geoscientist.
•Minimum of 10 years of exploration experience.
•Experience in sediment hosted base metals will be an added advantage.
•Proven experience in the use of exploration, geological modelling, data management software’s (e.g. ArcGIS, Leapfrog. Micromine. Mapinfo, acQuire) and Microsoft office products.
•You should have proven experience in quality assurance, quality and relevant exploration protocols.
•Advanced knowledge and understanding of economic and structural geology, sedimentology and ore forming processes.
•Advanced knowledge of drilling techniques in line with available technical information.
•Full understanding of all discipline relevant legislation.
•Technical proficiency in geological, geochemical and geophysical interpretations.
•Interpersonal, motivated individual with good communication, planning and organization skills, conflict management/problem solving and management knowledge.
•Contractor management skills
