Role scope
Gathers data to meet specific project objectives by using various informational sources.
Collects information and establishes a database to catalogue, update and retrieve data. Analyzes data to determine trend, discrepancies or other specific departmental business issues. Coordinates meetings with targeted audiences to identify or clarify departmental issues, which may include committees, consultants, citizen’s groups
Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out experiments and research according to protocols laid out by CBA
- Collect and log data
- Conduct statistical analyses of data sets
- Prepare graphs and spreadsheets to portray results
- Create presentation slides and posters to help CBA present findings
- Review print and online resources to gather information
- Check facts, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy
- Provide ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researcher and/or supervisor
- Summarize project results
- Prepare progress reports
- Develop or assist in the development of interview schedules; contact potential subjects to introduce and explain study objectives and protocol and to arrange interviews, either in person or by telephone
- Identify and compile lists of potential research subjects in accordance with study objectives and parameters, as appropriate to the individual position
Competencies
- Analytical skills;Research assistants are often asked to collect and analyse data and to manage and update existing databases.
- Technical skills:Research assistants may need to set up and carry out surveys
- Observational Skills: Research assistants need to be able to work in a highly accurate manner, paying close attention to detail and keeping records of their work.
- Time -management skills :When dealing with data and statistics, it’s important to be able to meet project deadlines and manage your time to accomplish your goals.

Qualification
- diploma from an accredited institution (preference will be social sciences or any related fields)
- certificate in data analytics will be an added advantage
