Job Description
The Project Planner/Scheduler will be responsible for laying out the framework that guides a project’s progression from initiation to completion. They identify and segregate different tasks that make up a project, setting milestones and deadlines and monitoring progress to the end goal. The Planner plays an important role in ensuring that a project is completed efficiently and on time, while staying within budget constraints.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Your key accountabilities include:
- Developing comprehensive project plans, monitoring progress and ensuring projects are completed on time.
- Regularly assessing project performance, focusing on both short-term achievements and long-term outcomes.
- Proactively reporting and escalating concerns to management as necessary.
- Developing and maintaining integrated master schedules for capital projects from initiation through commissioning and project close-out.
- Assisting in developing and updating project schedules using approved planning software.
- Maintaining project schedules and ensuring activities are updated with current progress information.
- Monitoring project progress and report schedule variances to the Project Manager or PMO Manager.
- Preparing weekly and monthly planning and progress reports.
- Working alongside internal teams and communicating with external stakeholders to ensuring project objectives are aligned.
- Assisting in maintaining project documentation, including schedules, work plans, and progress records.
- Supporting resource planning by tracking labour, equipment, and material requirements.
- Participating in project planning and progress review meetings and record agreed actions.
- Updating project milestones and monitoring completion against planned dates.
- Assisting in identifying potential scheduling issues and escalating them to the Project Manager.
- Ensuring project schedules comply with PMO standards, governance requirements, and project control procedures.
- Maintaining project planning documentation, schedule revisions, and change logs.
- Supporting project cost forecasting by integrating schedule progress with project cost control information.
- Promoting continuous improvement of planning methodologies, scheduling processes, reporting tools, and project controls.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
- Diploma in Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3 years in project planning, scheduling, project administration within a mining, engineering, construction, industrial environment or related experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong focus on Excel and Microsoft Project.
- Project management trainings will be an added advantage.
