Job Description
In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 30th March 2025.
Main purpose of the position
To control and maintain system balance to ensure a continuous, safe, efficient, economic and reliable power supply to customers in accordance with Southern African Power Pool and Local Regulatory standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Controls voltage and load in order to ensure good quality of supply and minimise technical losses.
- Initiates speedy restoration of system after faults to minimise disruptions for consistent quality of supply.
- Monitors frequency time deviation from standard and initiates correction.
- Monitors the activities of the field teams to ensure that operational systems, procedures and safety standards are observed at all times.
- Renders operational support to the Senior National Grid Controller during abnormal system operational scenarios, to ensure smooth restoration of supply.
- Carries out switching under the supervision of the Senior National Grid Controller.
Carries out system load dispatch. - Collates and analyse data using pre-determined tools, methods and formats.
- Captures and records operational data in order to maintain a record of load trends for planning and other purposes.
- Records all operational activities/events (for reference purposes).
- Produces reports as directed by the supervisor.
- Carries out prescribed internal and external client management activities and provides support to others by following existing procedures.
- Identifies defects or faulty equipment in the systems and recommend corrections/upgrades.
- Prepares commissioning programme to commissioning execution.
- Receive clearance, handing over, taking over of project documents to confirm compliance to safety standards and operational procedures.
- Operates in accordance with policies and safety rules, while performing routine safety checks on own equipment and workspace.
- Comply to SHER procedures when carrying out duties.
- Promotes safety awareness in line with SHER requirements through periodic audits.

Qualifications
- Recognised Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Must be Senior Authorized up to 400kV
- Professional Membership of the Engineering Registration Board (ERB)
- Class B Drivers licence is required
Experience
- Four (4) years post qualification experience in a Transmission power system operations environment.
