Government of Botswana is collaborating with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on a Sustainable Forest Management Impact Program on Dryland Sustainable Landscapes (DSL-IP), with funding from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). The DSL-IP seeks to assist countries across Africa and Asia in: a) fostering resilience of production systems in drylands; b) promoting restoration and rehabilitation; and c) improving livelihoods through a comprehensive landscape approach. As part of the DSL-IP, the Botswana Sustainable Miombo-Mopane Landscape Management Project addresses the same objectives and is executed by Ministry of Environment & Tourism and Ministry of Agriculture, through Operational Partner Agreements.

Applications are therefore, invited from suitably qualified Botswana Citizens for the below mentioned contract positions, which are tenable at the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. Successful candidates will become part of a Project Management Unit (PMU) based in Gaborone.

The project offers an attractive remuneration package, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

VACANCY: MONITORING AND EVALUATION OFFICER

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Under the guidance of the National Project Coordinator and the Regional Dryland Sustainable Landscape-Impact Programme Coordinator, the Monitoring and Evaluation officer will coordinate monitoring and reporting activities across the implementing/ operational partners.

REMUNERATION:

P34, 247.00 per month (inclusive of Medical Aid, PAYE and gratuity)

LEAVE DAYS:

30 Working days per annum (to be utilized during contract period)

CONTRACT DURATION: One year renewable

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of Masters Degree in Project Management, Social Sciences, natural resources management or a related discipline.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 7 years experience in a senior technical lead position with monitoring and evaluating the progress, performance and benefits of GEF/WB/EU or similar projects.
  • Experience in drylands ecosystems would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Land Degradation Neutrality principles would be an advantage.
  • Good communication and computer skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishing a performance-monitoring framework to define targets for the proiect:
  • Measuring project and GEF Results Framework indicators quarterly to establish progress of the project in meeting the AWP and Budget targets.
  • Reporting to the NPC on the performance of the project according to project and GEF Results Framework indicators.
  • Continuously sharing information with relevant Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) units in FAO and other partners.
  • Providing information against project indicators to be used for reporting to GEF on a yearly basis, including project mid-point and terminal evaluations.
  • Participate in DSL-IP M&E working group and trainings.
  • Contribute, jointly with the Global Coordination Project, to the establishment and upkeep of the DSL-IP M&E System and Dashboard.
  • Document and share project-related assessments, methodologies, and best practices related to M&E.
  • Inform the PSC on the M&E Dashboard.
  • Support the implementation of the Integrated Landscape Assessment
  • Methodology (ILAM) in target landscapes.
