VACANCY: HEAD OF DEPARTMENT (HAIR DRESSING AND BEAUTY THERAPY) –D2 X 1 POST

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, well-experienced and self-driven citizens of Botswana for the post of Head of Department (Hair Dressing and Beauty Therapy) – D2 salary scale tenable at Gaborone Technical College.

SALARY SCALE: D2 (P320, 952 – P353, 928 per annum)

LEAVE: 30 working days per annum

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Hair Dressing, Bachelor of Arts in International Saloon Management (Beauty Therapy) or
related field plus Post Graduate Diploma in Technical & Vocational Education. BQA accreditation and Master’s Degree will be an
added advantage.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience, two (2) of which should have been served on D3 salary scale as
Senior Lecturer I (Hair Dressing & Beauty Therapy) or equivalent position.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To oversee, coordinate and supervise the Departmental programmes, process activities and to
drive the College’s strategic objectives.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

1. Articulates Department policies, procedures and processes, academic regulations and professional standards to
supervisees and students.
2. Oversees development and implementation of curriculum, procedures and guidelines.
3. Oversees internal and external examination for students’ assessment and moderation.
4. Works with external moderators to process students’ academic results.
5. Mediates between students and lecturers and between senior management.
6. Attends to staff welfare issues in the Department.
7. Organizes meetings with various stakeholders on behalf of the department.
8. Participates in stakeholders’ activities through seminars, fairs, meetings and workshops.
9. Provides technical advice to the Deputy Principal-Academic and administrative advice to the Deputy PrincipalAdministration.
10. Instills professional ethical standards amongst staff and students.
11. Mentors, coaches, marks, moderates and analyses students’ assessment.
12. Mentors, assesses and moderates students on teaching practice.
13. Conducts reviews and appraises supervisees.
14. Engages on exchange programmes with other comparable Institutions to enhance quality and share ideas.
15. Facilitates approval of College academic results through the Academic Board.
16. Monitors Departmental budget utilization and reports to Management.
17. Facilitates the development of annual report for submission to Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) in
accordance with accreditation requirements for the College.
18. Undertakes any other related duties as required to meet exigencies of the service.
