Job Description

This position is responsible for providing employee relations services to Operations in line with Human Resources procedures & policies in accordance with Botswana Labour Law.

The Employee Relations Superintendent will develop and foster a fair, respectful, diverse, and high-performance culture enabling employees to contribute their best as well as to develop, deliver and maintain a business focused employee/industrial relations strategy that meets Motheo Copper Mine needs. This position reports to the Human Resources Manager.

Key Performance Areas

  • Contribute to the development of the Human Resource function by developing a progressive, business focused employee relations framework that meets the current and future needs of the operation.
  • To develop and foster a sound employee relations/communication through monitoring and analysing the workplace, company policies, procedures, and practices, and advising management accordingly.
  • Advises and guides the management in all facets of employee relations, ensuring fairness and consistent application of all applicable labour laws.
  • Monitors the consistent application of procedural and substantive fairness in grievance and disciplinary issues.
  • Facilitates and participates in the negotiation process on substantive and operational issues and advises the company’s negotiating team.
  • Represents the company in various third-party disputes e.g mediation, arbitration and at the Industrial Court.
  • Responsible for the Botswana Mine Workers Union sign in, to facilitate and implement a collective labour agreement between management and the union.
  • Collaborates with the HR Manager in Initiating company management position papers for negotiations with a view to achieving positive outcomes and broad agreement to proposals which meet business goals.
  • Interprets Motheo policies and procedures to line management and employees to ensure sound Industrial Relations and equitable application of company policies and procedure.
  • Continuous Audits on HR policies and procedures, collective Labour Agreements, and recommends changes to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and statutory instruments.
  • Identifies capacity building needs for all relevant stakeholders and develops appropriate interventions to address the deficiency.
  • Research and analyses trends on employee relations climate and make appropriate recommendations on changes, and/or implements necessary changes.
  • Identifies and implements positive employee relations programmes, in consultation with the relevant stakeholder groups.
  • Contribute to the review of IR Policies and Procedures.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Social Sciences, or related field.
  • Valid Light Duty Vehicles Driver’s License.
  • Ten (10) years post graduate experience in Human Resource Management, of which 3 should have been at middle management level in employee relations.
  • Extensive experience in labour interface, negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution.
  • Well knowledgeable on Employee Relations and Labour Law principles.
