Position Overview

The Control & Instrumentation Technician will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of automated systems. The incumbent will be installing, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the sensors, meters, and control systems required to monitor flow, pressure, and quality across water services area (Boreholes, water plants and sewage treatment plants) and storage facilities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understanding distributed telemetry networks using Radio Telemetry (UHF/VHF), GSM/GPRS networks, and Satellite/VSAT communications to transmit data from remote boreholes to the main mine control room.
  • Configuring and troubleshooting interfaces (like Citect SCADA, Siemens WinCC, or Wonderware) to track water levels, flows, and pump statuses in real-time.
  • Calibrating and maintaining submersible pressure transmitters, ultrasonic, and radar level sensors used to monitor static and dynamic water levels in boreholes.
  • Servicing electromagnetic flowmeters and ultrasonic meters to monitor extraction and discharge volumes against environmental regulations.
  • Maintaining sensors for electrical conductivity, pH, and turbidity to monitor water quality before it enters the processing plant
  • Programming, troubleshooting, and modifying PLC logic (e.g., Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley, Schneider) to automate borehole pumps based on tank levels, pressure thresholds, and pipeline limits.
  • Setting up, configuring, and troubleshooting Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) to ensure smooth motor starting and energy efficiency in high-pressure pumping systems.
