Job Description

Representative Duties

  • Being the main Tuli Conservation Trust (TCT) representative on the ground.
  • Act as main point of contact for the surrounding communities and TCT.
  • Recruiting volunteers to assist with TCT work in the villages.
  • Working with the 6 villages surrounding Northern Tuli Game Reserve (Notugre), identify community needs and assess priorities and sustainability of possible solutions.
  • Represent TCT to the general public, public officials and partner organisations.
  • Build contact list of key players and identify champions within Notugre and in the communities.

Projects/Community Duties

  • Identify potential projects for TCT to support and, after due evaluation, assist applicant, if appropriate, in completing a Grant Application for funding from TCT.
  • Provide oversight on successful projects, evaluating their sustainability, and ensuring comprehensive reporting from grant recipients is received by TCT in a timely manner, quality assuring the reporting prior to submissions to TCT Trustees.
  • Where required, project-manage TCT funded projects (eg clinic and eye projects).
  • Document/audit all projects previously and currently being carried out by Notugre/Notugre members/neighbours in the Tuli block and cross border in SA/Zim. Assess what works and what doesn’t , what’s needed and what’s not – criteria for success.
  • Coordinate community engagement (eg with Kgosis, VDCs, community members, and other specific interest groups) in line with the TCT’s ethos and aims, working closely with other organisations such as NGOs and partner organisations.
  • Research successful community empowerment/education projects elsewhere.
  • Document success stories/case studies

Fundraising

  • Assist with fund raising and fund-raising events.
  • Identify partner organisations and other funding streams.

Financial Duties

  • Keeping accurate financial records and invoices for expenditure.
  • Assisting with compiling budgets, grant applications and keeping within budgets allocated for projects.
  • Taking custody and assuming responsibility for TCT assets on the ground. Reporting on stock and/or maintenance of assets.

Reporting

  • Submit weekly activity reports to TCT Trustee + Administrator so to ensure TCT Trustees and Donors, Notugre stakeholders and communities are well informed with activities, progress and success stories.
  • Provide substantial reporting during and post project implementation, i.e.. Wrap up reports/sustainability reports/Lesson learnt/etc
  • Provide review reports yearly or twice a year on TCT performance or observation for improvement/change.
  • Social media – provide small social posts for management approval on a regular basis on all projects, perspective projects and past projects.

Staff

Oversee and manage any staff employed under you by TCT (currently none), community extension workers may be needed at a later stage.

  • Ensure they are achieving their working goals, reporting efficiently and carrying TCT name correctly
  • Ensure projects under their supervision are progressing
  • Ensure HR aspects for staff members are met

Requirements 

  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong reporting skills
  • Strong financial budgeting skills
  • Strong communication skills – English (mandatory) and Setswana (preferable)
  • A tertiary qualification in community development or similar
  • Previous experience with working in a community development environment
  • A conservation background would be beneficial
  • Proficient in Word/Excel and email usage
