The Botswana Savings Bank (BSB) is a profitable, sustainable, State-Owned Enterprise (SOE, that is decisively being readied for privatization Within the next three (3) years, BSB will accomplish a ‘no frills”, digitally enabled banking model that delivers financial inclusion, mobile wallets, e-banking and a sustainable, country-wide banking footprint.

CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible for all the organisation’s banking front, middle and back-office elements. The COO shall develop, manage, and ensure the efficient delivery of all products and services in line with the organisations mandate and strategy.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

Degree in Business Administration, Management, Banking, Finance, or related area. Masters in Business Administration or any related field will be an added advantage.

Experience:

Ten (10) years’ experiences in a bank or other mass market financial institution including at least three (3) years at senior management level.

Demonstrated understanding of the importance of financial inclusion in social and economic development is an added advantage.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the organisation’s strategy.
  • Advise the CEO and the Board on resourcing and budgetary requirements to service the organisation’s core operating activities and business plans including recommendations on priorities best suited to achieve the organisation’s strategic objectives.
  • Optimise the organisations product and service portfolio by monitoring product and service performance, overseeing the development and roll-out of products and services which are in line with the organisation’s mandate and strategic objectives and culling product and service offerings which are significantly underperforming
  • Identify operational and business model improvements which will further the organisation’s strategy, and which are in line with its mandate (e.g. the use of third-party vendors and/or digitisation to increase access to banking products).
  • Oversee the provision of all products and services; setting and ensuring that all service quality and operational efficiency standards are adhered to.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to improve the organisation’s financial health and organisational efficiency through greater use of technology.
  • Monitor third party service providers and their compliance with SLAs to ensure the efficient and cost-effective delivery of products and services.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements as well as the organisation’s internal processes and procedures are in order.
  • Recommend growth in the activities of the banking and financial services business to ensure solvency and adequate return on use of funds.
  • Evaluate the financial aspects of product development, such as budgets, expenditures, research and development appropriations, or return-on-investment and profit-loss projections.
