DESCRIPTION

The Chief Geophysicist is responsible for all aspects of the geophysical program, from designing and budgeting the company’s geophysical strategy to program planning, contractor selection and contract negotiation to  in-house EM survey crew supervision, daily QA/QC, data interpretation and reporting. The Chief Geophysicist will work closely with geophysical service companies and Exploration Manager to acquire high quality data and work closely with the geological team to integrate geophysical interpretations with geological information. The Chief Geophysicist will also assist management with budgeting, press releases and corporate presentations.

Duties include:

  • Selection of the type of geophysical surveys appropriate for the work
  • Selection of equipment and contractor for work
  • Budgeting of geophysical program
  • Tendering and negotiation of contracts
  • Assisting with shipping of gear and import/export paperwork
  • Survey design and specifications
  • Supervision of geophysical survey crews and QA/QC of data collection
  • Maintaining a digital database of geophysical data
  • Data interpretation, 3D modeling and reporting
  • Working as part of a team to integrate all available information to provide the best interpretation
  • Assisting with news releases and corporate presentation
  • Acting as the qualified person (QP) for geophysical news releases
  • Evaluation of geophysical data on potential new property acquisitions

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Geophysics, Master’s of Science in Geophysics is an asset
  • Qualified to act as Qualified Person (QP) under NI 43-101 regulations
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary active drilling projects and integrating geophysical interpretations for targeting purposes
  • At least 10 years experience with 5 years in a senior management role
  • Experience in budgeting
  • Experience negotiating contracts
  • Software skills required: Microsoft Office, Geosoft, Maxwell, 3D modeling software, ARCGIS
  • Experience working in multiple projects using multiple geophysical methods, experience in mining environments is an asset
  • Experience in interpretation of regional airborne geophysical datasets and property scale datasets
  • Experience in 3D modeling of airborne, surface and downhole EM data using Maxwell software
  • Experience in modeling potential field data using 3D software (example UBC codes)
