CHIEF GEOLOGIST

These positions are based at the Mine Site located between Maun and Sehithwa in Ngamiland, therefore, you must still enjoy getting out on site and have the enthusiasm and interest to work in a remote location and in a multicultural work environment. Only Botswana citizens may apply.

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

Reporting to the
Technical Services Manager, you will be responsible for the establishment of a systematic and integrated approach to applying modern methods in the management of geological
processes on site in support of a productive mechanized mining environment. You will establish grade control drilling and modelling processes, operational mine geology procedures, systems and processes and lead the Geology department in a collaborative and efficient manner in support of the mining operations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be responsible for:
• The management and adherence of the Safety, Health, Environment and Community (SHEC) policies and procedures in area of responsibility as well as compliance to the statutory requirements as stipulated in the prospecting and mining licenses.
• The development of an efficient and suitable method for Grade Control drilling and modelling of the orebody to ensure timely delivery of quality information to the Mining
teams.
• The formulation of departmental strategy and measures in line with the Company plan.
• The development of an efficient and suitable method for Grade Control drilling and modelling of the orebody to ensure timely delivery of quality information to the Mining

• The development and design of underground diamond drilling programmes as required for exploration, resource conversion to reserve and grade control drilling.
• The effective management of diamond drilling processes to ensure safe, efficient, and productive work from drilling to core management through to updating of information to the
geological database.
• The introduction of relevant and appropriate systems to ensure efficient mine mapping and capturing of mine data through to geological and mine design software.
• The management of the day-to-day function of the Geology department, in a collaborative manner with Mining Operations and Technical teams.
• The formulation of the annual mine geology capital and operating budgets as well as the management of departmental costs in line with approved budgets.

• The development of systems for reporting and reconciliation as needed to effectively manage the performance of the orebody and geological models, in line with site and company requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
• BSc Geology degree/ BSc relevant degree.
• Qualified for QP sign off.
• 15 years post qualification experience, with a minimum of 10 years in an underground hard rock mechanised mining environment (predominantly base metals, or relevant gold
experience).
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a Senior Geologist in a production environment
• Experience of industry processes, procedures, policies, and values as relates to geology.
• Understanding of Botswana Mines, Quarries, Works & Machinery Act and the various
applicable licenses.
• Demonstrated strength in structural geology, mine operational geology, geological database and orebody modelling, and geology department management.
• Formal professional or technical registration with an internationally recognised Geological Body.
• Experience with a suite of Geological software required for the mine.
