Job Description

Botswana Trade Commission (BOTC) is a statutory body established by the Botswana Trade Commission Act, 2013. The BOTC Act was promulgated pursuant to Article 14 of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) Agreement of 2002, which mandates each Member State to establish a specialized, independent, and dedicated national body to receive requests for tariff changes and other related SACU matters.
The Commission is inviting individuals with proven leadership capability, strong business acumen, and impeccable integrity and a solid understanding of SACU trade agreements, to fill the position of Chief Executive Officer,

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Board, the position will be responsible for the overall stewardship, strategic direction, and performance of the Commission, in accordance with the Botswana Trade Commission (BOTC) Act, national policy instruments, as well as, regional and international standards, and conventions on Trade.

THE JOB

The incumbent will be responsible for, among others, the following:
⦁ Leading the development of the vision for the Commission, in line with the mandate of the organization, goals, and policies set out by the Ministry and BOTC Act, as well as, ensuring realization thereof.
⦁ Providing leadership in the development and implementation of long, medium, and short-term operational plans for the efficient delivery of the mandate of the Commission and reporting periodically to the Board, in addition to implementing Board decisions.
⦁ Ensuring efficient regulation and promotion of trade, determining tariffs and trade remedies within the common customs area, as well as, putting in place measures to protect infant industries and Botswana against illegal goods and dumping.
⦁ Making strategic and sensitive decisions on matters pertaining to the operations of the Commission whilst, maintaining full accountability for the overall performance of the organization.
⦁ Establishing and nurturing cordial relationships between the Botswana Government and SACU, as well as, ensuring Botswana’s compliance with the SACU agreement, regional, as well as, international conventions, and standards on trade.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

The right candidate will possess the following:
⦁ A minimum of a Masters’s Degree from a recognized institution, or any equivalent qualification.
⦁ A minimum of twelve (12) years of experience, five (5) of which should be at the executive level.
⦁ Thorough understanding of national and regional trade policies.
