Main purpose of the position

To plan, organise and supervise the activities of the Drawing Office to ensure the provision of efficient and cost-effective services including the availability of accurate and up-to-date drawings and schematics.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains the drawing office database, classification, and indexing system for easy referencing.
  • Reviews Drawing Office schematics database and initiates follow up remedial action to ensure drawings are up to date.
  • Designs office layouts, building extensions and modifications according to user requirements in accordance with set standards
  • Checks and approves substation and switching station building plans prepared by consultants to ensure compliance with set Corporation standards.
  • Prepares the Corporation’s substation and switching station building plans in accordance with Corporation standards
  • Supervises and inspects the construction of buildings to ensure conformity to the design plan.
  • Recommends CAPEX, Operational Expenditure and Manpower budget implementation of approved budget to achieve set objectives/plans.
  • Performs quality assurance checks and corrects completed drawings including schematics and drawings prepared by the CAD Operator.
  • Collects data or drawings from internal and external stakeholders and convert it into useful information.
  • Provides support to Contractors with as built drawings during shutdowns to be able to locate switching points for carrying out their duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Avails updated network schematics to operations and maintenance teams to enable them to carry out their duties in a safe and effective manner.
  • Identifies shortcomings in existing processes, systems, and procedures, then uses established change management programs to deliver prescribed outcomes and/or provide support services.
  • Coordinates and monitors if projects undertaken by contractors follow prescribed or approved drawings in line with BPC policies and standards.
  • Adheres to all Safety Health and Environmental and Risk standards contained in the Corporation’s SHER policies and procedures
  • Promotes safety awareness in line with SHER requirements through periodic audits.

Qualifications

  • Recognised Diploma in Architecture or equivalent
  • Registered as a Professional with Architect Registration Council (ARC) and/or Engineering Registration Board (ERB)
  • Class B Drivers Licence is a requirement

Experience

  • At least Four (4) years post qualification experience in a Drawing Office using Computer Aided Draughting design tools.
