Job Summary

The Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPFF) is a defined contribution pension fund established in 2001 to provide retirement benefits to public officers. Since its establishment, the Fund has experienced significant growth and currently serves approximately 165,000 members. As the Fund continues to grow and strengthen its governance, institutional capability and long-term sustainability, opportunities have arisen for suitably qualified and experienced professionals to contribute to enhanced accountability and good governance.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement the departmental strategy, operational plan, risk-based audit strategy, budget and annual plan; prioritise and execute audit assignments; advise on governance, risk and internal controls; coordinate with External Auditors; maintain a quality assurance and improvement programme; promote control awareness; contribute to corporate strategy; and lead and develop Internal Audit staff. The Independent Trustee will work with the Board of Trustees to achieve the Fund’s strategic objectives and actively participate in Board and Committee meetings, contributing innovative ideas that support sustainable long-term results for members.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Auditing, Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. Full membership of Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). Membership of a professional accounting body such as ACCA, CIMA or CA will be an added advantage Ten (10) years’ audit experience, including at least five (5) years’ supervisory experience in the audit field. A bachelor’s degree, preferably a master’s degree, in Investment Management, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, or an equivalent qualification such as Chartered Financial Analyst or Fellow Risk Management. At least ten (10) years’ managerial experience in the financial services sector, preferably specific experience in the retirement funds sector. Sound knowledge of corporate governance, investment, risk management, pensions and/or insurance. Ability to understand strategic issues and accept the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of a Trustee. Knowledge of the NBFIRA Act, Retirement Funds Act, Trust Act, Financial services laws, and other relevant legislation. Must be of good standing and eligible for approval by NBFIRA as a Trustee. Previous Board membership and trusteeship experience will be an added advantage.
