The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) was established under the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority Act of 2016 for the regulation of the energy sector in Botswana. The Authority is responsible for providing an efficient regulatory framework for the regulated sector in accordance with the Act.

The Authority invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated professionals for the following position:

Senior Electricity & Green Energy Inspector (Installation, Plant Construction)

Job Purpose

To inspect and investigate regulated businesses to ensure compliance with the Authority’s guidelines and to avoid compromising safety and quality.

Key Performance Areas and Accountabilities

  • Assess engineering drawings to ensure compliance with codes and regulations set by the Authority and recommend authorization and licensing.
  • Coordinate with electricity and green energy licensees to schedule inspections and collect project data.
  • Conduct inspections and investigations of electricity and green energy sites and equipment to monitor and enforce compliance with approved drawings, regulations and codes.
  • Investigate incidents and respond to emergencies to better understand situations and recommend corrective measures where necessary.
  • Select appropriate tests and equipment to validate and interpret test data to verify compliance with regulations and codes.
  • Report non-compliant sites or equipment and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Consolidate data and findings from inspections and prepare detailed reports for submission.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections and activities undertaken.
  • Recommend new testing methods and procedures for electricity and green energy operations incorporating new technologies and international standards.
  • Communicate with licensees to inform them of regulations and encourage compliance.

Academic Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in a related role.
  • Mandatory registration with the Engineers Registration Board.
  • Relevant professional certification or membership with a recognized professional body will be an added advantage.
