The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) was established under the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority Act (BERA Act, 2016) for the regulation of the energy sector in Botswana. The Authority is responsible for providing an efficient regulatory framework for the regulated sector in accordance with the Act.
The Authority invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated professionals for the following position:
Senior Petroleum & Gas Inspector (Installations, Plant, Construction)
Job Purpose
To carry out tasks of regulating, implementing and monitoring the Petroleum and Gas Engineering sector.
Key Performance Areas and Accountabilities
- Develops, sets and recommends minimum standards of performance and safety rules expected from players in the sector (e.g. suppliers, licensees) to minimize industrial accidents and meet regulatory requirements.
- Carries out assessments of petroleum installations and checks compliance with Technical and Environmental protection codes to ensure safety, reliability and quality.
- Assesses operational licence applications and submits recommendations to management to support licensing decisions.
- Assists in drafting and developing regulations on licensing criteria and standards in line with BERA regulations.
- Monitors and supervises licensees and suppliers to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations.
- Develops and implements planning strategies for the sector and recommends integration into the BERA strategic plan.
- Ensures licensees and suppliers comply with Health, Security, Safety and Environmental protection standards.
- Provides technical input to the development of Petroleum and Gas Quality standards.
- Investigates and reports on conflicts or disagreements between customers and licensees.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Energy Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in a related role.
- Mandatory registration with the Engineers Registration Board with a valid practising licence.
