Main purpose of the position

An understudy position, to manage the maintenance aspects of the Morupule B Power Station and achieve agreed operational targets, including to ensure that the generation plant performs to agreed standards in terms of plant reliability, availability, technical efficiency, environmental impact and safety at an acceptable cost and risk.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supports overall organizational strategy by developing and delivering operational plans and outcomes for a large portion of the business.
  • Reviews and recommends cost effective operations, maintenance and safety procedures, systems, and parameters for efficient and safe operation of the power station and other generation assets.
  • Establishing long-term sustainable plans targets and monitoring of generation assets in accordance with BPCs strategic plans and statutory regulations and procedures.
  • Monitors performance of power station and recommends/ approves changes in operating systems procedures and design to maximise efficiency.
  • Responsible for resources management which includes acquisition, application, and control of all resources necessary to effectively execute the deliverables of the business.
  • Implement Generation department strategies and plans to ensure alignment with strategic direction.
  • Proposes and establishes a network of business resources of information and expertise from which to select most appropriate to base long term decisions regarding facilities planning/resource allocations.
  • Responsible for all forms of reporting for the Power Plant e.g., KPIs
  • Manages the development and/or delivery of an element of the organization’s strategic planning.
  • Accountable for tactical and situational planning including strategy implementation, to make complex operational decisions.
  • Develops and leads strategy formulation and policies for the Power Station to achieve its business objectives.
  • Ensures good lines of communication throughout the Power Station and networking with other Managers, and other BPC’s management structures.
  • Responsibility for setting and approving power station budgets to attain organizational strategy.
  • Provides input into the development of compliance policies, develops underlying procedures, and monitors their implementation for area of responsibility within the organization.
  • Ensures correct commercial procedures are followed with external contractors and purchasing.
  • Takes responsibility for fulfilling business plans for a significant functional business area by effectively leading a large team.
  • Implements and coordinates performance management culture for a significant functional area of the organization.
  • Accountable to ensure safety, safety systems and safe working conditions in terms of legislation.

Qualifications

  • A recognized B.Eng/BSc  degree in Mechanical  Engineering or equivalent.
  • Membership of the Botswana Engineering Registration Board or equivalent will be required.

Experience

  • A minimum of (5) years relevant post qualification experience,at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Knowledge and experience in maintenance of coal fired power plants is required.
  • Knowledge in a coal fired power plant equipment is required or a plant of similar complexity.
  • Knowledge in power plant safety is mandatory.
