TECHNICIAN-TELECOMMUNICATIONS (X1)-MAUN (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)
In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 4th August 2023.
Main purpose of the position
To install, test, commission, repair and maintain the Telecommunications network equipment to ensure effective and efficient operations of the power system network and corporate wide communication.
Job Responsibilities
- Installs and commissioning Telecommunications equipment according to laid down procedures.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment and systems for emergency repairs
- Performs and preventive maintenance and repairs according to laid down policies and procedures to reduce downtime and occurrence of faults
- Conducts periodic inspection of telecommunications equipment and makes preliminary reports
- Sets up and tests new products/processes and installs complex systems to enhance performance of the systems and compliance to BPC standards.
- Recommends calibration of telecommunication equipment to ensure that the test equipment is available and operational.
- Maintains and updates telecommunications system documentation for fieldwork reference and archival purposes.
- Maintains an inventory of equipment database.
- Contributes to the development of telecommunications quality standards to support the Operations and Performance & Efficiency functions
- Upholds established quality standards for effective operation and maintenance.
- Collects and analyse data using pre-determined tools, methods and formats and come up with initiatives to improve performance.
- Compiles periodic and ad hoc reports.
- Carries out prescribed internal and external client management activities and provides support to others by following existing procedures.
- Attends to customer queries related to telecommunications services.
- Identifies shortcomings, recommends, and implements solutions to the systems for compatibility and operability.
- Implements inhouse, supervise outsourced projects and ensure compliance to project specifications
- Proposes and implements staff development plans for the area of responsibility to ensure competent, efficient and motivated staff.
- Motivates and disciplines team in area of responsibility in line with laid down procedures to realize the Corporation’s objectives
- Trains technical personnel or user departments to ensure skills development and skills transfer for business continuity
- Supervises the activities of the team to ensure that operational systems, procedures and safety standards are always observed.
- Operates in accordance with policies and rules, while performing routine safety checks on own equipment and workspace.
- Supervises housekeeping of telecommunications workshop, storeroom and sites
- Participates in the safety, health and environment programmes as driven by the Corporation.
- Promotes safety awareness in line with SHER requirements through periodic audits
- Adhere to all Safety Health and Environmental and Risk standards to ensures compliance with the BPC SHE requirements with the view of cultivating and sustaining safety, health and environmental awareness within the section.
Qualifications
Recognised Diploma in Electrical and Electronics / Telecommunications engineering or equivalent.
Professional Membership of the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) is required.
Senior Authorization will be added advantage
Class B Driver’s License is required
Experience
At least Four (4) years post qualification experience in a telecommunications environment, preferably in a power system environment.
