SHE Officer (1 Year 3 months contract) – Khoemacau Copper Mine
AECI Botswana (Pty) Ltd, an explosives and specialty chemicals company focused on providing products and services to a broad spectrum of customers in mining, manufacturing and agricultural sectors, has a vacancy at Khoemacau Copper Mine.
Core Responsibilities
- Conduct SHE Meetings (plan, scheduled and review)
- Coordinate and facilitate implementation of the Company’s Safety Health and Environment (SHE) strategy
- Conduct, facilitate and coordinate all SHE related inspections
- Compile weekly, monthly and quarterly SHE reports
- Conduct, monitor and report on legal and mandatory SHE training requirements
- Drive implementation of SHE initiatives for the site
- Monitor achievement of the Site Improvement Plan (SIP)
- Be the EDGE system custodian for the site
- Manage appointment of the various SHE roles for the plant.
- Manage the permit to work, take 5, UOR, and other SHE management system for the site
- Drive the company’s wellness program on site
- Coordinate and participate in the investigation of incidents, accidents and near misses
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly statistics and presentations related to SHE performance
- Report to the Site Manager Non-conformances and corrective action taken.
- Compile and submit investigation reports to Site Manager and AECI Botswana head office.
- Ensure regular emergency response exercises and drills are conducted to ensure the highest level of preparedness in any emergency. Maintain records of such drills, providing recommendations for emergency response improvements.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Requirements
- At least a degree in Safety Health and Environment (SHE) or related field.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in a SHE related position preferable in an underground mining environment
- Must be both fluent in both Setswana and English
- Be in possession of a valid driver’s Licence
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Keen attention to detail and adherence to deadlines
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Presentation and report writing skills
- Be a Botswana Citizen
- Good understanding of the Explosive Act, Mine Quarries, works and Machinery Act (MQWM) and other related SHE legislative
