Main purpose of the position

To direct, organize and supervise development and implementation of security policy and procedures to ensure optimum security protection measures at strategic and operational level of the Corporation at all times.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and advise management on the development and implementation of security strategies within the operation’s broader business plans at local level
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of security policies, procedures, practices, and technologies to enable effective mitigation of potential losses
  • Co-ordinate deployment of security systems to minimize risk and evaluate system effectiveness
  • Develop an intelligence driven operation to properly align allocation of time, resources, and personnel to ensure maximum probability of success and performance excellence regarding reviews, investigations, and assessments
  • Drives the security activities of the Corporation, in accordance with the BPC’s minimum security standards enabling business plan objectives to be achieved.
  • Reviews policies, standards within the corporation, to ensure complete compliance to set requirements and procedures.
  • Actively builds networks and influence with relevant decision makers in the law enforcement authorities, ensuring that the corporation is visible and recognized in the market
  • Leads the process for the identification and transfer of best security practice within the Corporation, to ensure that security standards and procedures are continuously improved
  • Reduce asset losses and provide assurance through the implementation of an integrated security programme that protects all BPC Personnel, Customers, Assets, Facilities, and Intellectual Property.
  • Conducts investigation of all security breaches, work related accidents involving BPC property, intellectual property, employees and customers and compiles necessary reports
  • Facilitates the investigations requiring technical expertise, prepare reports and follows up action.
  • Delivers required outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with contract service providers and working within an established contract management plan
  • Manages stakeholder & customer relationships to ensure that their needs are met within established policies and procedures
  • Develops and maintains a network of contacts with law enforcement and intelligence agencies to obtain information relating to risks threatening BPC operations
  • Reviews department financial proposals from juniors and approves or amends as necessary to ensure optimal use of resources.
  • Oversees adherence to budget
  • Monitor implementation of risk control measures
  • Identifies shortcomings in existing processes, systems, and procedures, then uses established change management programs to deliver prescribed outcomes and/or provide support services.
  • Delivers required outcomes by managing security projects with service providers and working within an established project management plan.
  • Provides advice on designing new processes and systems to achieve professional standards and desired outcomes.
  • Carries out on-the-job training to increase the flexibility, efficiency, and capability of the team.
  • Manages the motivation and discipline of staff in area of responsibility in line with laid down procedures to realize the Corporation’s objectives.
  • Manages the performance of the team by working within a performance management system.
  • Proposes and implements staff development plans for the area of responsibility to ensure competent and efficient teams
  • Delivers own prescribed outcomes and/or provides support services by using the organisations safety, health and environment systems and protocols.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a recognised Degree in Security Management or equivalent.

Experience

  • At least six (6) years relevant post qualification experience in security management, two (2) of which should have been at the level of Senior Security Officer at Middle to Senior Management capacity.
