Location: Gaborone, Botswana

Position Type: Full-Time | Senior Role

Medlane Day Hospital is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, experienced and patient focused Botswana Registered Theatre Nurse to join our growing multidisciplinary surgical team in Gaborone, Botswana.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of perioperative nursing care across a range of surgical specialties including ophthalmology, general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, and other day surgical procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in General Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana.
  • Post Basic Qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in an operating theatre environment.
  • Sound knowledge of aseptic technique, infection prevention and control, instrument sterilization and perioperative patient care.
  • Competence in both scrub and circulating nurse roles.
  • Experience assisting in ophthalmic surgery will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to prepare operating theatres, manage surgical instruments and equipment, and maintain accurate theatre documentation.
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and professionalism.
  • Willingness to participate in an on call roster when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating theatres and equipment before surgical procedures.
  • Scrub and circulate during a wide range of surgical procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention and patient safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate theatre records and instrument counts.
  • Assist with stock control, theatre equipment maintenance and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver compassionate, safe and evidence based perioperative nursing care.
