Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) is a mining company established in 1973 to mine and unlock true value of coal for all stakeholders. The MCM business is at the heart of a prosperous future for Botswana with coal production contributing significantly to the economic development of Botswana. The Mine is owned by the Minerals Development Company Botswana (MDCB) amining investment entity of the Government of Botswana.
Morupule Coal Mine is located 7 km northwest of the urbanized village of Palapye (the fastest growing center outside the capital city of Gaborone), along the Serowe-Palapye national highway (A14).

  • PROJECTS MANAGER

Job Summary

To support the Head of Strategy and Projects in the planning, management, and delivery of large complex project studies to support the MCM Strategic Plan and the subsequent implementation of approved expansion, business improvement and stay in business projects within the project’s portfolio. The key focus will be the major capital projects circa P1billion, being the further expansion of existing coal mining, coal processing and associated infrastructure areas to grow export coal sales.

 

Key Effectiveness Areas

  • Manage and deliver the study phase of project assessment, where the detailed analysis of alternatives is considered, develop business cases, and if financially viable, seek approval for execution i.e. concept, pre-feasibility, and feasibility studies (front end loading process).
  • Develops integrated, cross-functional Project Execution Plans (PEP) including items such as Execution Strategy, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning and Operational Readiness plans.
  • Record of successful delivery of large integrated greenfield or brownfield capital mining projects.
  • Effective safety leadership and behavior modeling for the project team, consultants, specialists, contractors, and construction workforce.
  • The development of an integrated plan (from the scope of work), incorporating all stakeholders requirements and technical functions while meeting MCM standards.
  • Set-up of required project controls to ensure delivery against these standards and the objectives as defined in the project charter.
  • Effective leadership of cross-functional teams in line with MCM values.
  • Transparent reporting of progress to stakeholders.
  • Provides effective leadership and management of a cross-functional team to deliver project against objectives as defined in the project charter, by reinforcing the Zero Harm objectives of the project.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in Project Management or equivalent.
  • Subsequent qualification in project management and demonstrated record of achievement.
  • 8 years or more experience in the Project Management environment,with 3 years at management level.
  • Project management related certification (PMP, PRINCE2 etc.) would be an added advantage.
  • Leadership or Management Development Program would be an added advantage.
  • Must be registered with Engineers Registration Board (ERB) Botswana.
