Purpose of the Role
To direct, coordinate and integrate all engineering activities of the project through design into construction and commissioning.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Manages the Engineering function within the project scope
- Ensures that project scope is engineered to the correct standards, specifications and client requirements
- Ensures that the project scope is executed in accordance with the correct and appropriate engineering practices
- Prepares and present technical proposals to the Project Manager for discussion and implementation
- Approve all technical adjudications on the project
- Accountable for all engineering designs, and compliance with regulatory and H&S requirements
- Monitors and integrates engineering changes throughout the project cycle
- As part of the Project Management Team, provide strategic direction for both engineering and project management discussions
- Assist the Project Manager in ensuring that the project is successfully implemented
- Multi and cross functional integration
- Manages EPCM contractors from an engineering perspective
- Monitors the output of contractors, consultants and Project Engineers
- Oversees all work of Project Engineers and Engineering Consultants
- Prepares and presents reports to Management
- Takes cognizance of, adheres to and promotes Corporate Governance and Company policies and procedures relating to inter alia; safety, health, environmental, risk and security issues
- Participates in the budget preparation and cost management process by evaluating, assessing and forecasting requirements, making provision for these and authorizing expenditure within given parameters
- Setting performance standards/requirements and objectives
Other Job Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental standards
Education
- Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Postgraduate qualification an added advantage
Experience
10 years post qualification engineering management experience in a mining, heavy industry or project environment.
Legal Certification/Professional Registration
- Registration with Engineering Registration Board (ERB) or equivalent
