PROJECT CONTROLS MANAGER:
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
Your role will be to ensure that all allocated projects within the Program are accurately reporting cost, budget, and schedule in alignment with business objectives and meet the functional requirements. The position reports to the Senior Project Manager.
The position is based at the Company head office in Gaborone, but with regular and extended travel to the study office(s) and our mine operations. Please note that you may be transferred to the Mine Site.
MAJOR DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
•Managing Project Controls for multiple, complex projects within the capital program, from studies (concept pre feasibility and feasibility) through to execution projects, by implementing best practice control systems, processes and methodologies.
•Implementing Khoemacau Copper Mine guidelines and the management of the cost control function within the program.
•Development and integration of a cost control plan, support during development of master schedules for capital projects, monitoring schedule progress, cost performance, and assistance in review and compilation of monthly reports with forecast and budget updates.
•Applying project control management, change management and interpersonal skills to projects that hold strategic significance for Khoemacau. its’ shareholders and key stakeholders.
•Co-ordinating and/or managing the controls functions for multidisciplinary teams covering Planning. Financial Control, and Document Control teams, within a mining environment from exploration, mining, geotechnical, processing. hydrology/ geohydrology, infrastructure (including but not limited to water, power, accommodation, roads, workshops and offices) and environmental/community including the key engineering and project discipline areas of civil/structural, electrical, control and instrumentation, mechanical, process/ metallurgy.
•Fostering a proactive safety culture.
•Supporting the identification and evaluation of proposed resources on capital projects.
MAJOR DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
•Performance Metrics and Reporting • Define and track key performance indicators (KPI’s) for projects controls, providing regular reports to stakeholders.
•Project Cost Control – Review of various Capital Application cost estimates (incl. comprehensive understanding of the basis of estimate for key items), cash-flow forecast and alignment with scope, WBS and schedule.
•Scheduling – Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to ensure alignment with project objectives and current operations, manage subcontractors and vendors to ensure accurate control and forecasting.
•Risk Management – Establish a robust risk management framework for the project. Identify, assessing, and mitigating potential risks.
•Document Control – Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
•A Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying or Finance is preferred. However, degrees in Project Management. Construction Management, or Business Administration with relevant mining experience may also be
considered.
•Minimum 10 years of experience working in the mining industry, preferably in project controls, project management or related roles. This experience should include exposure to project planning, scheduling, cost control and mining project delivery.
•Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of compiling financial costing models and implementing cost controls within the construction and/or mining industry.
•Processing and controlling costs in relevant project control software (Primavera / Planview).
•Demonstrated experience in the preparation and management of various contract delivery models including the management of multiple stakeholders in the complex contractual arrangements across both design and construction functions.
•Proven consultation and negotiation skills, proven ability to build relationships and influence and communicate effectively about complex or sensitive subjects of strategic importance at all levels.
•Proven experience in Risk Management • keeping a project risk register, mitigating risks and assigning actions.
•Knowledge of and competence in the use of: Primavera P6. MS Project and MS Office
•Work breakdown structure development cost breakdown structure development and coding. Development of WBS dictionary, maintaining and active management thereof.
