Title: Programme Manager – Underground & Planning – 5 Year Fixed Term Contract
Gaborone, BW
Purpose of the Role
To provide strategic direction and thought leadership to owners team and consultants to produce pre-feasibility and feasibility studies on all underground Mining Projects.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Formulates and manages the selection of underground mining methods to ensure alignment with Debswana’s goals
- Develops and manages the Underground Design and Planning Project objectives within the framework of the Organization’s strategic business plan, legal requirements, best Mining, Ore Processing and Engineering principles
- Produces robust feasibility studies for all underground Mining Projects
- Ensures that all geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological and geo metallurgical data is obtained within the required timeframes to complete feasibility studies to the appropriate level of accuracy
- Provides strategic orientation, vision and direction to lead and pursue new opportunities to achieve business goals
- Provides thought leadership and leads the Project team to provide the business with strategic, tactical and operational support
- Establishes and manages a highly skilled underground mine design team, consistent with world`s best practice in underground mining
- Develops framework for underground feasibility study development which includes the methodology, schedule, cost resources etc
- Develops detailed transition plan from open pit to underground mining following on from the feasibility study
- Delivers organizational structure that takes into account scale of Debswana’s underground mining projects and current project structures inclusive of roles, talent recruitment and development in the project team
- Develops frameworks and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principle/requirements
- Responsible for and manages the overall Functional safety, health and the environmental programme in line with organizational strategy and objectives
- Builds relationship across the Debswana pipeline by sharing business information and knowledge management
- Establishes and maintains business partner relationships with all internal and external key stakeholders to facilitate the optimal functioning of the business
- Actively pursues a standardised companywide approach around the exchange and protection of information between Group of Companies and individuals to ensure effective knowledge management according to organisational objectives
- Manages the key subordinate’s effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary
- Oversees the implementation of the functional talent management initiatives by ensuring the right competency and effectiveness of manpower

Education
- Bachelors Degree in Mining Engineering
- Post graduate qualification in Mineral Economics or Master of Business Administration
Experience
Twenty (20) years post graduate experience, fifteen (15) of which should have been in underground mine design.
