ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

Reports directly to the Assisstant Manager, Policy Development and Digitalisation and indirectly to the Coordinator, Digitalisation and Innovation Hub.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in Information Technology, Fintech, Project Management, Business Information Systems, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Banking, Business Administration, Commerce, Information Security, Law, Risk Management, full membership of an internationally recognised institute of professional body (ACCA, CIMA, BICA, CPA, ACA, CFA) or any other related field.

OR

 

A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Fintech, Accounting, Banking, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, Finance, Business Information Systems, Law, Risk Management or any other related discipline plus at least two (2) years of relevant post qualification experience.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  1. To periodically, collect and compile data on fintechs and digital currency activities in Botswana and regionally;
  2. To monitor domestic and international developments and trends on fintechs and digital currencies and draft reports for the management and Board;
  3. To participate in the review of current applicable legislation, frameworks and policies to ensure consistency with the evolving central banking role in terms of fintechs, digital currencies and big techs;
  4. To prepare, as assigned, the draft relevant research papers to inform formulation of fintech and digital currency policies, guidelines and directives;
  5. Participate in the implementation of all special Departmental projects as and when they arise, as may be assigned by the Assistant Manager or Manager;
  6. To respond to enquiries and requests on fintech and digital currency policy matters.

KEY RESULT AREAS

  1. Timely and accurate production of data on Botswana’s fintech and digital currencies activities.
  2. Production ofhigh-quality research and position papers on fintech and digital currency issues.
  3. Robust and effective polices, guidelines and directives with particular reference to the regulation and/or supervision of financial technologies and digital currencies.
  4. High quality draft reports on fintech developments and trends for the management and Board.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Draft position papers on fintech and digital currency initiatives, as may be assigned by the Assistant Manager.
  2. Produce articles on selected topics relating to fintechs and digital currencies for inclusion in the Bank’s internal publications and/or external publications.
  3. Collate information on fintech and digital currency strategies and initiatives for dissemination to local, regional and international organisations through the relevant structures, as may be requested.
  4. Assist in monitoring domestic and international developments and trends on fintechs and digital currencies.
  5. Collaborate with key stakeholders (NBFIRA, Botswana Digital Innovation Hub, and Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority, Fintech Association of Botswana) for collective learning, information and data sharing and synchronised regulatory responses to fintechs and digital currencies.
  6. Participate in the impact assessments of fintech and central bank digital currencies initiatives on the Bank’s mandate.
  7. Participate in the review of current applicable legislation, frameworks and policies to ensure consistency with the evolving central banking role in terms of fintechs, digital currencies and big techs.
  8. Attend to enquiries and requests by fintechs and users from other departments on the application and interpretation of legislations, regulations, guidelines, policies and directives pertaining to fintechs and digital currencies.
  9. Participate in training of relevant stakeholders on fintech and digital currencies policies, procedures and requirements.
  10. Drafts reports on fintech developments and trends for the management and Board.
  11. Participates in the implementation of Departmental projects.
  12. Undertakes such other duties as directed by the Assistant Manager and/or Manager.
