Job Description

The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Part Time Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Facilitator in the School of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The PBL facilitator guides and supports learners through a student-centred learning process in which knowledge and skills are developed by investigating and solving real-world problems. The facilitator encourages critical thinking, collaboration, independent learning and reflective practice. The successful candidate will help learners identify learning objectives, access relevant resources, monitor progress, and assist to evaluate solutions while fostering active participation and engagement in the problem based learning sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • facilitate Problem Based Learning (PBL) sessions for first and second year MBBS students;
  • Assess and evaluate learner participation and outcomes of the PBL sessions in accordance with programme requirements;
  • Attend a short PBL facilitator training workshop;
  • Guide learners in identifying and addressing learning needs;
  • Encourage critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills;
  • Support collaborative learning and teamwork;
  • Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback;
  • Promote self-directed learning and knowledge application;
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of School or Chairperson of the Department.

Requirements

  • Biomedical Sciences/MBBS or a related sciences field qualification from a recognized university;
  • Experience as a PBL Facilitator from a recognised university will be an added advantage.
