The University of Botswana (UB), a premier state-owned tertiary institution dedicated to shaping the future through excellence, research, innovation and meaningful societal impact, invites applications from accomplished and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Part-Time Music/Choir Instructor/Conductor in the Department of Student Life and Experience. The position holder is responsible for providing musical training, directing choir performances and leading vocal development programmes within the University student groups.

Key Responsibilities
– Train and conduct university choir(s).
– Lead vocal training sessions and rehearsals.
– Select and arrange choir repertoire (classical, contemporary, traditional).
– Conduct performances at university events and external engagements.
– Develop musical literacy /repertoire and vocal techniques among students.
– Coordinate auditions and choir membership selection.
– Support official university events and external performances.
– Collaborate with Music Accompanist for rehearsals and performances.
– Choral conducting and vocal training expertise.
– Music theory and arrangement.
– Leadership and group coordination.
– Communication and instructional skills.
– The candidates must be prepared to work at weekends, including public holidays.
– Support the planning and organizing of arts and culture programs, events, and initiatives within the university.
– Promote the university’s arts and culture offerings, including exhibitions, performances, lectures, and workshops.
– Ensure that arts venues and facilities are well-maintained and equipped for artistic performances and exhibitions.
– Undertake any other duties as directed by the supervisor in line with their role.
Requirements
– Diploma in Music (Specialisation in Choral Studies preferred).
– Experience in choir conducting and vocal training.
– At least two years coaching experience at national level.
– Previous coaching experience in a University or comparable institution, as well as the ability to communicate clearly in English and understand group dynamics will be added advantages.
– Basic knowledge of Braille arts, cultural trends, and artistic disciplines.
– Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
– Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
