Unitrans Botswana, requires the services of experienced Botswana citizens for the following vacant position which is tenable in KHOEMACAU MINE/TOTENG AREAS. The incumbents will be expected to carry out their duties in a safe , secure and economic manner in total compliance with legal and operational requirements.

MINING AND HAULAGE CONTRACT MANAGER

Reporting to the Managin Director,the successful applicant will have a minimum of 7 years experience in operating land train haulage units of 200 tonnes gross vehicle mass, front end loaders, bulldozers and road maintenance, in mining conditions.

A trade certificate/apprenticeship qualification, in mechanics is essential, as well as proficiency in vehicle diagnostic computer systems. Accounting and Microsoft computer skills would be an added advantage.
Good Customer communication and team leadership skills are a prerequisite.

Minimum Requirements

• Tertiary Qualification in transportation and logistics
• Excellent Computer skills
• Excellent management and human resources skills
• Good understanding of accounting processes
• 8 – 10 Years at senior operational level with the transportation/logistics industry
• Must have experience within the Mining industry
• Must have experience with loading and hauling
• Mining Engineering I Engineering qualification would be an advantage
• Must be in possession of an open cast blasting licence
• Basic legal knowledge of contracts
• Problem solving skills
• Judgment and decision making skills
• Strategic planning capability
• Customer management and industry networking capability
• Occupational Health and Safety Act legislation
• Mine Health and Safety Act
• Knowledge of vehicle applications by operation
• Knowledge of financial management principles
• Sound knowledge of the logistics and supply chain management environment
• Knowledge and experience in dealing with HR/IR matters
• Must have experience in dealing with unions
• Ability to work long and odd hours

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Manage the business strategy
• Direct, supervise,Coordinate all transport operations in the depot, including fleet, employees, revenue and expendinture in a manner that strategic, quality and profit targets are achieved within legal and safety parameters and those laid down by the mine.
• Oversee fleet maintenance processes to ensure optimum vehicle and driver utilisation;
• Identify customer needs, growing the business and providing excellent customer service
• Monitor compliance with Safety, Health, Environment & Quality policies and procedures
• Manage and monitor contracts performance and take corrective actions.
• Manage the entire spectrum of the depot work including its administration,Industrial Relations
and risk management.
• Manage a team of staff including, despatchers, gantry loaders, supervisors, clerks and other ancillary staff;
• Consult, coach, motivate, counsell and discipline staff
• Implementation and seamless transition of new business, be it organic or external growth
• Effective financial management of strategic operation
• Manage staff effectively.
