Merchandise Executive – Sefalana

Job Description

Sefalana Cash & Carry, a leading distributor of Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) in Botswana, invites applications for the position of Merchandise Executive. This is a senior management role reporting directly to the Head of Merchandise.

Minimum Requirements

• Academic Qualification:
  Tertiary qualification in business management, retail management, procurement and logistics, or related field.

• Experience:
  At least 15 years’ experience in procurement within an FMCG environment, with at least 10 years in senior management.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Detailed and practical understanding of FMCG products and all product categories.
• Conversant with market trends and able to capitalize on trends for business opportunities.
• Proficient in assessing product categories/segments and spotting business opportunities.
• Ability to build long-term relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of product branding and positioning strategies.
• Commitment to achieving business objectives and managing business strategy.
• Strong communication skills for effective interaction with management teams, branches, and stakeholders.
• Possession of a Class B driver’s license.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage a team of national buyers to ensure development, motivation, and productivity.
• Set and enforce minimum customer care standards for the department.
• Coordinate central buying initiatives and evaluate their effectiveness for competitive advantage.
• Plan and manage themed sales promotions to ensure optimum sales and profit opportunities.
• Source suitable suppliers, product ranges, and competitive trading terms to strengthen the company’s product mix and competitiveness.
• Negotiate and monitor agreements with suppliers on advertising fees and incentives.
• Review management reports to assess performance and take corrective actions.
• Participate in supplier reviews and identify opportunities to enhance performance.
• Contribute to the formulation, implementation, and review of departmental business strategy.
• Maintain contact with Operations Management to stay informed about business needs.
