Job Description
A lecturer shall be responsible for students’ teaching and learning, guiding junior staff in their respective subject matter, engaging in research, publications and innovation as well as participating in community engagement and outreach.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching and Learning: Conducting and managing lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical demonstrations, eLearning, industry-based learning, educational field trips and excursions. Includes setting and marking tests for Continuous Assessment and Final Course Examinations. Participate in development of new Programmes and review of existing ones.
- Research & Innovation: Devote time to research and innovation resulting in quantifiable outputs/publications.
- Community Engagement and Outreach: Contribute to the corporate social responsibility of NEC through activities aligned to area of expertise.
- Coordinates the development of course organization and preparation of learning materials.
- Coordinates programme development, reviews, accreditation and endorsements.
- Prepares schemes of work and training plans.
- Keeps clear records of students’ register and performance; prepares end of semester reports.
- Assesses courses (invigilation, setting exams/assignments, marking, and feedback).
- Provides support in curriculum development and reviews.
- Advises and guides students’ academic progress and growth.
- Undertakes sole or joint research, publications, and consultancies.
- Prepares and follows-up on the assessment of students on attachment.
- Assists in students’ extra-curricular activities.
- Participates in assessing and recommending students for exemptions, RPL and equivalence of alternative entry qualifications.
- Acts as a course tutor and internal verifier where assigned.
- Participates in organising conferences, trainings, workshops, and faculty industry advisory board meetings.
- Arranges for, guides and supervises students on educational trips.
Requirements
- Qualification: Degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Masters in Mechanical Engineering with 2 years of teaching experience.
- Key Attributes: Strong interpersonal/communication skills, high degree of professionalism, ability to research and publish, problem-solving skills, leadership/management skills, analytical skills, customer focused.
- Mandatory requirement: Must have BQA, Evaluation of Qualifications, and Assessor, Moderator certifications and ERB.
- Registration Certificate and ERB Practicing License.
