The U.S. Mission in Gaborone, Botswana is seeking two eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Mechanic – Generator.

The work schedule for this position is:  Full Time – 40 hours per week.  The position may be subject to overtime work, which will be accordingly compensated.

Start date:  Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or his/her candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position:  No

Duties:  The incumbent reports to the Maintenance Foreman – Electrical.  The incumbent is employed as the Maintenance Mechanic – Generator to carry out skilled maintenance and repair work on prime and stand-by emergency generators for the Embassy Compound and residential owned/leased properties.  Responds to scheduled, unscheduled and preventive maintenance work orders generated by the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Qualifications and Evaluations

EDUCATION:  Completion of secondary school is required and successful completion of a 3-year training program from an accredited institute recognized as producing power generation diesel engine mechanics is required.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of prime or standby power generators for large commercial properties such as high-rise office buildings, a hospital or college campus, or for the local utility company is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of prime or standby power generators for large commercial properties such as high-rise office buildings, a hospital or college campus, or for the local utility company is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:

English level III ( Good working knowledge; speaking, reading & writing) is required.

Setswana Level III (Good working knowledge; speaking, reading & writing) is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair diesel engine generators. Basic computer skills (MS Word; MS Outlook), simple database software. Driver’s license class B – Must have held a driver’s license for at least five years. Basic numerical skill to be able to count money, stock taking and estimating required material quantities(This may be tested)

Qualifications:  Local prescriptive privileges must be acquired.  All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
